NOF GENERAL ASSEMBLY 2025

General assembly (GA) was opened at 12.30 (CET) by president Ülle Voog-Oras.
- Election of Chairperson, Secretary and Tellers
Tülay Lindberg was elected to chair the assembly and Ulvi Gürsoy to take the minutes. George Belibasakis and Una Stāmere were voted as tellers.
- Approval of the General Assembly being duly notified and of the agenda
Invitation for the 2025 IADR NOF General Assembly was sent to NOF members by email and published on webpage on April 23, 2025. The agenda was accepted.
- Annual report of the Board of the Association
Ülle Voog-Oras presented the report. The GA was informed that 1) the term of the current EJOS editor-in-chief Vibeke Bælum is ending at the end of 2025 and the term of elected EIC, Nikolaos (Nick) Silikas, who is a Professor in Oral Biomaterials Sciences, University of Manchester, UK, will start on January 1, 2026, 2) two new Board members, Marit Øilo as the representative of Norway and Konstantinos Bougas as representative of Sweden, started their duties on January 1, 2025, 3) on contrary to all efforts, NOF Board did not receive any proposals to fulfill the position of Icelandic representative in the NOF Board, 3) preparations for the 2027 PER meeting in Riga are continuing, 4) the 2nd IADR NOF Baltic Meeting in Oral Health Science & Technology, which took place in Tartu, Estonia, went successfully. The report was approved.
- Councillors’ report
Ulvi Gürsoy presented the report and informed the GA that 1) the IADR Councillor’s meeting was held in Barcelona Spain on June 24, 2025, and Ulvi and Ülle represented NOF, 2) Council approved the following nominees to stand for election for IADR Vice-president 2026-2027: Georgios Belibasakis, Scandinavian Division (PER), Periodontal Research Group, Yang Chai, American Division (NAR), Craniofacial Biology Group, and Gabriel Sanchez, Argentine Division (LAR), Cariology Research Group, 3) the council approved an updated Code of Ethics, Policy Statement on Antimicrobial Resistance, Dental Amalgam Policy and Position Statement, Tobacco and Nicotine Products Position Statement, 4) Council approved an Oral Diseases within the NCD Agenda Policy Statement and accepted the IADR Pride in Dental Research network application, 5) IADR Distinguished Science Award in Periodontal diseases was presented to Andreas Stavropoulos, Malmö, and STAR Network fellowship presented to Shuntaro Yamada, University of Bergen, Norway, 6) Next IADR general sessions will take place in SanDiego in 2026, Melbourne in 2027, Baltimore in 2028, and Yokahama in 2029, 7) Long term NOF Board member, Peter Holbrook passed away.
Report was approved.
After Board’s invitation, Georgios Belibasakis introduced himself to the GA as the nominee for IADR Vice-presidency for the term 2026-2027.
- Accounts
- a) Accounts of the Journal
Accounts of the Journal for 2024 was presented by Ulvi. The GA was informed that the finances of the journal are satisfactory, 1) while the subscription incomes decreased, non-subscription incomes stayed steady, 3) production costs decreased, 4) fee to Wiley stayed steady. Overall, the result is stable in NOF.
Accounts of the journal were approved by the GA.
- b) Accounts of the division
Accounts of the division were sent to all members by email a day before the GA. Accounts of the division and the annual report of 2024 was presented by Carolina Sabel. The GA was informed that the number of members for the year 2024 was 205, which was 72 members less than 2023. Nina informed that there are sufficient number of investments, including funds, in the bank accounts.
The accounts of the division and the annual report of 2024 were approved by the GA.
- Budget for the coming year
The board proposed a 5 USD increase in membership fees for the year 2026 (NOF student member: 20 USD and NOF active member: 75 USD). The board also proposed to support student members by reimbursing their IADR/NOF annual membership and congress registration fees, and pay travel grants for 2026, if they participate to the 2026 CED/NOF congress with an oral or poster presentation.
Budget proposal for 2026 was approved by the GA.
- 2027 Riga
The GA was informed that the preparations for the 2027 PER meeting in Riga are ongoing.
- Elections
The board proposed to the GA 1) Konstantinos (Kostas) Bougas as next NOF president for 2-year term (2026-2027), 2) to extend the period of Anne Marie Lynge Pedersen as member of Denmark for the years 2026-2030 due to her strategic role in PER management, and 3) Carolina (Nina) Sabel as NOF treasurer for the term 2026-2030.
Board also informed the GA that 1) Anne Marie Lynge Pedersen will serve as next NOF vice-president for 2-year term and 2) the PER officer duty will be carried by the NOF past president of the term.
The GA approved the board’s proposals.

Board informed the GA that the next GA meeting will be arranged in junction with CED-IADR/NOF Oral Health Research Congress, Lisbon, Portugal, on September 24-26, 2026.
- NOF Hatton award
Ülle Voog-Oras presented the NOF Hatton Award announcement, application, and competition procedures for the year 2025 to the GA. She informed that the 2025 winners, whose names were already announced at the opening ceremony of the meeting, are Merve Üçtaşlı (University of Turku, Finland) and Kazi Shefaul Mulk Shawrob (University of Oslo, Norway).
- Any Other Business
Roger Junges thanked to NOF board for the financial support to organize a symposium in 2025 IADR Barcelona meeting.
General Assembly ended at 13.30.
